DC Voters Deserve Answers About Kenyan McDuffie’s Dirty Deals

Washington, DC – DC voters and labor unions are calling on Kenyan McDuffie to address lingering questions about votes he took on the Council that benefited companies tied to his family members and former staff.

“McDuffie’s voting record on good governance and questionable contracts is extremely troubling,” said Jos Williams, Chair of Safe & Affordable DC and former President of the DC Metro AFL-CIO. “Here are some questions that voters need answered:

  1. Why did McDuffie vote to oppose increased transparency on how DC government contracts are awarded?

  2. Why did McDuffie vote to award an $8.8 billion Medicaid contract to a business run by his former staffer – even though that business had a history of overcharging DC?

  3. Why did McDuffie cast the deciding vote to award a multimillion dollar no-bid sports gambling contract to a firm tied to his cousin?”

“These questions have been raised in the media throughout McDuffie’s career, but never properly answered,” Williams continued. “We need a Mayor who will fight for all of us, not just the wealthy and well-connected. McDuffie just fights for his wealthy donors and his friends. Janeese Lewis George has spent her career fighting for the people of DC, for all of us, and that is why she is the best choice for DC’s next Mayor. Say no to dirty deals. Don’t rank McDuffie.”
