KENYAN MCDUFFIE WAS FINED BY OCF FOR FAILING TO COMPLY WITH AN AUDIT RELATED TO HIS 2022 COUNCIL CAMPAIGN
Jos Williams, Chair of Safe & Affordable DC and the former president of the Metro Washington Council, AFL-CIO, issued the follow statement:
Kenyan McDuffie and his supporters continue to run one of the most anti-union, anti-worker campaigns I’ve seen in my decades in DC. This baseless complaint will not distract voters from McDuffie's cozy relationships with utility companies or his contributions from Trump donors.Ironically, it was McDuffie himself who was fined by the Office of Campaign Finance last year for failing to comply with an audit that found a variety of issues from his 2022 Council campaign. These include account totals that did not add up; unreported donations and expenditures; and refusing to provide complete financial records, after multiple requests for these documents. He even failed to show up at a hearing and a second, re-scheduled OCF hearing on these serious issues. We get it, McDuffie is nervous about losing an election after being forced to give up his job on the Council to change his party registration in order to run for Mayor. This is a race where voters have been negatively impacted by his cozy relationship with Pepco, Washington Gas, and real estate developers, and thousands have been hurt by his vote to cut worker wages. That is why every major union in DC has endorsed Janeese Lewis George and zero have supported McDuffie. We, and our many union supporters, have been vigilant in following DC campaign finance law and look forward to submitting our response. This complaint is not serious, but McDuffie’s attacks on D.C. workers are. We will continue to challenge them and are confident that voters will hold him accountable in June.
