Trump Donors, Pepco Lobbyists, and Law-Breaking Developers: “McDuffie’s Starting Lineup” Showcases Nine of His Most Noxious Campaign Contributors
Baseball cards featuring the donors will be handed out at Nats Park’s opening day
Washington, DC – Fans at Nats Park’s opening day will have an opportunity to collect nine limited-edition baseball cards featuring “McDuffie-Aligned Grifter Allies” (MAGA) contributors to his campaigns. “McDuffie’s Starting Lineup” includes a GOP megadonor who obtained a pardon from Trump after donating $35,000 to his campaign and the Trump-controlled Republican National Committee; a GOP lobbyist and Trump donor whose lobbying firm was charged with violating lobbying disclosure laws by the Obama Administration; and thousands from Pepco and their lobbyists.
“DC residents have already struck out on affordable energy bills this season,” said Jos Williams, Chair of Safe & Affordable DC and the former president of the Metro Washington Council, AFL-CIO. “Workers in DC know just how dangerous shady landlords, developers, and MAGA millionaires are. The last thing DC needs is a mayor who’s too cozy with for-profit utilities to call balls and strikes. McDuffie couldn’t do it when he had oversight of the committee that supervises utility regulators, and we can’t count on him to do it as mayor. DC needs a mayor who will go to bat for us – not load the bases for corporate special interests.”
“McDuffie’s Starting Line Up” follows hot on the heels of voters learning that he had five times more contact with Pepco than any other member of the DC Council, received thousands in campaign contributions from Pepco, its lobbyists, and its officials; and consistently voted for giveaways to Pepco while he was on the council—a utility player for DC’s for-profit gas and electric companies.
According to the District of Columbia’s Board of Ethics and Government Affairs (BEGA), which requires disclosure of communications between lobbyists and councilmembers, since 2018 and his January 9, 2026 resignation from the council, McDuffie had five times more disclosed contacts with Pepco’s lobbyists than any other member of the Council. And since 2018, according to DC campaign finance records, McDuffie has taken $4,870.36 from Pepco, Pepco lobbyists, and Pepco officials.
“There’s a pattern emerging of disturbingly close relationships between McDuffie and a slew of shady developers and corporate cronies,” Williams continued. “If you want to know where someone’s real allegiances lie, start by following the money. He’s just not ready for the big leagues, and DC voters will make sure this campaign is yet another swing and a miss for McDuffie.”
